Jason Momoa Is ‘Freaking Out’ in Excitement Over Lobo Role in Supergirl

Jason Momoa is stepping into a new DC role as Lobo in the coming Supergirl movie, and he’s clearly loving every second of it. The actor recently opened up about playing Lobo in Supergirl, calling it a dream come true and sharing how excited he feels about bringing the fan-favorite character to life.

During a CinemaCon appearance, Jason Momoa didn’t hold back his excitement about joining Supergirl as Lobo. He said the role connects directly to his childhood, explaining, “This is a dream come true. This is the comic I collected.” He also added that the younger version of himself would be “freaking out” over this moment (via USA Today).

Momoa made a memorable entrance at the event, riding onto the stage on Lobo’s motorcycle. It set the tone for the high-energy presentation, which also featured Milly Alcock and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran. Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, and teased an intense storyline filled with action and emotional stakes.

The footage shown at the event gave a closer look at Kara’s journey. One sequence features her traveling through space when pirates attack her ship. Things quickly spiral as she gets pulled into space before fully suiting up, only for her powers to kick in mid-crisis. At one point, a character shouts, “She’s flying towards the sun.”

Director Craig Gillespie described the film as more layered than a typical superhero story. He called Supergirl “complex and flawed,” adding that the movie leans into a more emotional, anti-hero tone. Alcock also shared that the role pushed her creatively, saying the experience was “incredibly transformative” for her, both “personally” and “professionally” (via Hollywood Reporter).

Momoa even joked about a possible crossover with his former DC role as Aquaman. Instead of a fight, he imagined both characters bonding, saying they would “have a few hundred beers” and get along just fine. With this kind of energy, fans can expect a bold and fun addition to the DC universe.
