A White House official has denied a recent report claiming that Donald Trump was barred from meeting with military officials. Senior U.S. officials reportedly told The Wall Street Journal that the President was not included in the discussion due to security concerns over his unpredictable disposition.
White House denies reports about Donald Trump
According to a Friday report by The Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump was allegedly excluded from a pivotal Situation Room meeting. However, the White House has now denied the report.
The meeting was held to discuss rescue missions to extract an American pilot from Iranian territory. The situation occurred on April 3 when an F-15 fighter jet carrying two crew members was shot down in Iran. Although one of them was recovered soon after, the other crew member was trapped behind enemy lines for over 24 hours. However, he was subsequently brought to safety.
WSJ reported that after hearing the news of the pilot being stranded in Iran, Trump “screamed at aides for hours.” Over concerns regarding the President’s explosive demeanor, military officials did not include him during the discussions. “Aides kept the president out of the room as they got minute-by-minute updates because they believed his impatience wouldn’t be helpful,” an official told WSJ.
The report has triggered a new wave of calls for the President to be impeached. Congressman Daniel Goldman made an X post on Sunday, stating, “The commander-in-chief was excluded from commanding a military operation because he was acting so crazy. Think about that. Trump is not well. We need the 25th amendment before something really bad happens on US soil.”
In response, the director of communications at the White House, Steven Cheung, has claimed that the WSJ report is false. In a counter X post, he penned, “Think about this: you, a sitting U.S. congressman, getting duped by fake news. Just imagine how easily you might be compromised.”
