Tucker Carlson Apologizes For ‘Misleading People’ About Donald Trump

Tucker Carlson addressed his years-long support of Donald Trump in a striking moment of public self-reflection on his podcast. The conservative media figure explained why he now feels personally responsible for the consequences of backing the president through two election cycles.

Tucker Carlson ‘tormented’ by his support of Donald Trump

Tucker Carlson has publicly expressed regret over his support for Donald Trump, according to The Guardian. The conservative podcaster said he feels “tormented” by his role in helping Trump return to power. Carlson issued the remarks during a conversation with his brother Buckley on The Tucker Carlson Show on Monday.

“I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say,” Carlson stated. He told his brother that both of them bear responsibility for the current political situation. “You and I and everyone else who supported him, we’re implicated in this for sure,” he added.

The rift between Carlson and Trump has deepened over the U.S. war in Iran, which began in late February. Carlson previously called Trump’s language on Iran “vile on every level” during an earlier episode. He said Trump “clearly had no plan” for the conflict and “did it against his will.”

Trump recently attacked Carlson on social media, calling him “a low-IQ person, always easy to beat, and highly overrated.” The president also threatened to publish a list ranking MAGA supporters as “good, bad, and somewhere in the middle.” Trump’s criticism extended to other right-wing figures, including Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones.

Carlson had previously supported Trump throughout his 2024 presidential campaign. He spoke at a campaign event in Arizona five days before election night. He also praised Trump as a “national leader” at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Earlier in April, Carlson told Newsmax he still feels “sorry” for Trump, describing him as someone “hemmed in by other forces.” He also questioned on his podcast whether Trump could be “the antichrist” after the president mocked Pope Leo XIV. Carlson was fired from Fox News in 2023 following the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit settlement.
