The Dallas Cowboys received a surprise visit from Bill Clinton during a press conference on Wednesday. The team’s owner, Jerry Jones, was speaking to reporters when he spotted the former U.S. President walking in, prompting a warm reunion between the longtime friends.

“Look at this right here. Come in this house,” Jones said as he went over to greet Clinton, almost tripping in the process. The former President was all smiles as he surprised the room, joking, “I’m negotiating the draft.”

Jones went on to praise Clinton, saying, “He’s been a wonderful, not only president, but a friend over the years, and really happy to have you here today.” The Cowboys owner added, “Let me tell you something, this guy was recently named the second-most [successful] American to have started with very little and to have accomplished a lot. Look at it, it’s in Forbes.”

Clinton thanked Jones and said, “I’m glad to see ya. Have a good draft day.” Referring to the room full of reporters, the former president quipped, “They got a lot of good questions for ya, right?” He added, “You can dream that someday of having a press conference, and nobody will come and [they] won’t ask questions, because everything is perfect.”

Jones went on to emphasize his appreciation for the media. “They’ve spent their life and elected to spend their life in sport, and that’s why they’re here. And they could have been doctors or lawyers,” the Cowboys owner said. “And so when they pick my you know what, and they do, I say guys, ‘We’re actually cousins because we both elected to spend our years in sports around here.’ So be a little sweeter if you wish,” he continued.

Jones added, “And that goes there, but great bunch of folks. They do a great job, and they’re a big part of what sports and the NFL is about. And this unquestionably will be the largest press conference going on in the NFL today.”
