Brian McKnight is firing back at the strong accusations made against him. The singer is suing those whom he believes tarnished his reputation with what he calls lies. Some of those close to him allege that The Way Love Goes singer turned his back on his dying son Niko.
The multiple Grammy Award nominee says that numerous people put together a “sensational but false narrative” about him. He is suing his son Brian Jr., his ex-wife Julie, bloggers Marc Lamont and Tasha K, and the New York Post.
Brian McKnight was accused of refusing to tell his dying son he loved him

The idea that he abandoned Niko in his moment of need, is one that Brian is taking exception to. The artist told TMZ that these reports were a coordinated assault on his character. He believes the goal was for these people to make money off him with a “malicious character assassination.” He calls this abandonment narrative “shockingly dishonest.”
Along with the defamatory claims, Brian says that Tasha K went online to accuse him of having sex with a minor. He says that this was also false. The singer had two sons with Julie, Brian Jr. and Niko. Reports indicate that Brian’s relationship with his eldest sons grew stale, having been estranged from them for many years. He’d previously referred to them as “products of sin.”
According to Brian, the allegations against him have had a negative impact on his career, reputation, and family. He believes that he had no alternative but to go to court on this matter to clear his name while he’s also seeking damages. Brian’s son Niko died of cancer in May 2025.
