Gavin Newsom has mocked Donald Trump for seemingly sleeping during a recent press conference. The Governor of California reacted to the video of the incident, calling the President, “Dozy Don.”
Gavin Newsom trolls Donald Trump in new post
In a series of comments made on X (formerly Twitter), Gavin Newsom trolled Donald Trump for seemingly falling asleep during an Oval Office news conference on Thursday. A video capturing the moment has gone viral on social media. It shows the President appearing to doze off during the meeting as people addressed him directly.
“Asleep at the wheel,” Newson commented under the clip. Another short clip, where Trump appears to begin falling asleep before snapping awake and closing his eyes again, is also widely circulating online. Reacting to that, Newsom wrote, “DOZY DON IS BUSY DOZING.”
The “Dozy Don” nickname is seemingly a reference to the moniker “Sleepy Joe,” which Trump has often used to make fun of Joe Biden in the past. He has frequently criticized the former President for his age on multiple occasions. He has also often stated that Biden is not qualified for the presidency due to his apparent health issues. Many users pointed out the irony and backed Newsom’s remarks.
One X user said, “And, He had the audacity to call Biden ‘Sleepy Joe’.” Another commented, “Wouldn’t be so bad if he hadn’t continually called Biden sleepy Joe.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has appeared to fall asleep in public appearances. In December, cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Reiner cited multiple similar incidents and shared his thoughts on concerns raised about the President’s health.
Speaking with CNN, Reiner said, “He’s done this several times in the last few weeks.” The doctor added, “He’s fallen asleep in a crowded Oval Office, and he’s also fallen asleep at Cabinet meetings with people talking directly to him. That’s what’s called increased daytime somnolence” (via The Mirror).
The White House has repeatedly declared in the past that President Trump is in “excellent health” (via CNN). However, no additional statements have been made addressing the recent incident.
