Donald Trump’s questionable complimentary nature is once again becoming a point of focus. The White House Correspondents Association dinner took a frightening turn this past weekend when shots could allegedly be heard inside. Initially, though, Trump didn’t rush out as he claimed he wanted to see what could be done. Upon seeing the law enforcement officials, he decided to go.
In an interview following the incident, the POTUS said that he saw some “really attractive law enforcement people come through those doors.” That apparently gave him a sense of comfort to evacuate.
President Trump felt “very safe” thanks to the response
The presence of law enforcement at the weekend’s big gala caught the President’s attention. In an interview with 60 Minutes, he says that seeing those attractive people come through that door “frankly it made me feel very safe, very, very safe.” He went on to praise those officials, calling them “very impressive.”
The POTUS lavished his share of flattery on a male reporter earlier this month. He called the journalist “handsome” while praising his question. The President was asked about his policy for no taxes on employees who get tips or work overtime.
Despite Trump’s praise, many are scratching their heads over how an incident like this could have happened. Part-time teacher and video game developer Cole Thomas Allen allegedly got into the event while armed with a shotgun, handgun and several knives. Daily Beast Executive Editor Hugh Dougherty was attending the event. According to Hugh, there were no searches upon check-in, while only encountering magnetometers outside the ballroom.
Reports suggest that Cole bypassed public areas at the gala and got access to the terrace level above the ballroom. Cole was arrested in the incident and is expected to make a court appearance on Monday.
