Donald Trump Wants to Rename ‘ICE’ to ‘NICE’

President Donald Trump weighed in on a viral social media proposal involving one of his administration’s most controversial agencies. The president took to Truth Social to back a rebranding suggestion that originated from a conservative influencer weeks earlier. His endorsement could signal a potential shift in how a key federal enforcement body is publicly identified.

Donald Trump endorses name change for ICE

President Donald Trump has endorsed renaming U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (NICE). He shared his support in a Truth Social post on Monday, April 27. The proposed change would convert the agency’s acronym from ICE to NICE.

Conservative influencer Alyssa Mariiee first promoted the idea in March. “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday,” she wrote on X. Trump weighed in over a month after Mariiee proposed the change.

“GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT. President DJT,” Trump said on Truth Social. Changing a federal agency’s name typically requires congressional approval. The Trump administration has previously attempted similar renamings. In September 2025, Trump signed an executive order seeking to rename the U.S. Department of Defense to the Department of War.

The proposal arrives as ICE faces criticism following Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis. Two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were fatally shot by federal agents earlier this year. Funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, has stalled as Democrats demand immigration enforcement reforms after the deaths.

The Senate unanimously approved a bill earlier this month to fund all of DHS except ICE and Border Patrol. House Republicans rejected that measure and called on the Senate GOP to fund DHS entirely. On Thursday, April 23, the Senate approved a $70 billion package to fund ICE and Border Patrol for more than three years.

The House must now approve the funding. ICE money has not been severely impacted despite stalled DHS funding. The agency had already received billions through the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” Congress passed in 2025.
