An Austrian national is spilling the beans on his foiled terror attack. The plan was for him to kill as many of those attending a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna while on her Eras tour in August 2024. CIA intelligence was able to stop the attack from going forward, apprehending the suspect a day before the apparent plan was to be executed.
Those three shows at Ernst-Happel-Stadion were cancelled as a precaution after word of this threat surfaced.
21-Year-Old Beren A plead guilty this week
It looks like the police got their guy just in time. In court this week, the 21-year-old suspect in the terror plot, who goes by Beren A, pleaded guilty to plotting the terror attack. According to The Guardian, Beren told the court Tuesday, “I plead guilty in part.” He then confirmed that he was pleading guilty to the charges linked to the planned concert attack featuring Taylor. His lawyer Anna Mair told the court that her client deeply regrets this decision, saying it was “the biggest mistake of his life.”
The charges against him include terrorist offences and membership of a terrorist organization. Knives and homemade explosives were reportedly the way the terror plot would have gone down. The terrorism charges against Beren were confirmed in February. He has been behind bars since his arrest in August 2024.
That isn’t the only trouble the youngster is facing. He and a Slovak national called Arda K are accused of planning attacks in the Middle East. It’s a plot they didn’t go through with. They’re also accused of giving moral support to a third man, Hasan E, who was detained on suspicion of carrying out a knife attack in Mecca.
Beren is the only one facing charges in the concert terror plot. He could face up to 20 years in prison for his actions.
