Drake Maya talks about Mike Vrabel amid scandal
Drake Maye shared his thoughts on Mike Vrabel amid scandal. Not only Vrabel and Russini, even the Patriots have been feeling the weight of the scandal. The team’s quarterback Maye was asked to comment on the matter.
He told 7 News Boston WHDH’s Jonathan Hall, “We’re here for coach, we love coach and what he does for us, and has done for us this past year. You can’t speak it into words, and thankfully, he’s our head coach. We know he’s dealing with some stuff off the field and out of the coaching world but we’re here for him and I know he’s gonna come back” (via Marca).
It all started when Page Six published pictures of Vrabel and Russini embracing each other at a luxury resort in Arizona. The photos sparked rumors of an alleged romance between the two. At the time, both parties denied rumors of any extra-marital affair between the two.
However, as the noise and chatter grew louder, Russini resigned from her job at The Athletic. Vrabel addressed the matter in a press conference and expressed regret over the whole controversy. The Patriots coach stated, “I understand I could’ve addressed you guys sooner. But it was important to me to have a conversation with the players, which I did yesterday, very candidly” (via PEOPLE).
Vrabel added, “With that being said, I’ve had some difficult conversations with people I care about — with my family, the organization, the coaches, the players.”
“In order to be successful on and off the field, you have to make good decisions. That includes me. That starts with me. We never want our actions to negatively affect the team, never want to be the cause of distraction,” the Patriots coach concluded.
