A former New York City mayor is fighting for his life. A spokesperson for Rudy Giuliani confirmed on Sunday that he was taken to the hospital. He is said to be in “critical condition,” per Donald Trump.
Rudy served as Mayor of NYC from 1994 to 2001, during which the city underwent a major civic cleanup. His leadership in that role following the terrorist attacks in September 2001 prompted him to get the nickname America’s Mayor. He was also named the Person of the Year in 2001.
Rudy Giuliani’s rep calls him a “fighter”
As a politician, Rudy has fought many battles, but his biggest could be here and now. A representative for the former Mayor Ted Goodman updated people about Rudy’s condition on X/Twitter. Ted called him a “fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak.” Ted is asking for prayers as he navigates this difficult time.
Upon hearing news of his hospitalization, the POTUS took to Truth Social. Trump praised Rudy as “the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR.” He served as an adviser to the President during his 2016 campaign. He made headlines four years later when he shared Trump’s belief that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
While there aren’t many specifics, we do know that Rudy is at a Florida medical center. The 81-year-old has had his share of medical issues over the years. In September, he suffered serious injuries in a car crash. In April 2000, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer but managed to recover from the condition. He ran for President ahead of the 2008 election, ultimately withdrawing to endorse John McCain.
