While waiting for the stars, a bug was spotted on the carpet. Viewers were quick to link it to Donald Trump. They said the president has made his way to the Met Gala despite being banned from the ball.

Met Gala 2026 kicked off with much fanfare, with renowned celebrities following the “Costume Art” theme for the fundraiser. While all eyes were on the A-listers, it was a bug, a cockroach that stole the show. The cameramen captured the giant bug on the red carpet. Soon, it became a meme, with many jokingly referring to the roach as Donald Trump.
In the viral clip, the roach is seen on the carpet with bystanders shouting for the photographer to click pictures of the bug. “Donald Trump has arrived,” posted one on X (formerly Twitter). And it seems social media users could not agree more, as many posted Trump’s photos in reply. Trump was regular at the Met Gala till 2012. But according to PEOPLE, he was banned by Anna Wintour shortly after.
This is not the only time when the unlikely star, a cockroach, grabbed the attention. During the 2023 Met Gala red carpet, a bug distracted the crowd as they waited for Rihanna’s arrival at the Upper East Side museum. Variety first posted a video of the cockroach running up the museum stairs as photographer Kevin Mazur took a close-up shot.
As per Time, reactions online were swift. On X, a person described the roach with Wendy Williams’ infamous words: “She is an icon, she is a legend, she is the moment.” However, soon after, the cockroach was stepped on.
