Helena Bonham Carter has reportedly exited “The White Lotus“ season 4 over a disagreement about her acting performance. Helena Bonham Carter reportedly exited The White Lotus over Mike White demand
Helena Bonham Carter has reportedly exited “The White Lotus” season 4 over creative differences with showrunner Mike White. Sources revealed to Variety that White had written a character of a “washed-out star” itching to make a comeback, keeping Carter’s talent and versatility in mind.
However, the “The Crown” star reportedly exited the production after nearly a week over “creative differences” with White. As per the outlet, White demanded a more “boisterous” performance from the “Harry Potter” star. Carter and White were reportedly not on the same page regarding the tone and intensity of her character. Hence, the actor chose to quit the project.
Within days, White recruited Laura Dern to fill a “similar space within the ensemble.” The pair have previously collaborated on the TV series “Enlightened” and the film “Year of the Dog”. Dern also made an uncredited voice cameo in Season 2 of “The White Lotus”.
An HBO spokesperson previously spoke to Page Six about Carter’s exit. The spokesperson said, “With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set. HBO, the producers, and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
Notably, HBO and White are taking season 4 to greater heights with a much grander scale. Variety reported that the show will be mounted on a staggering $120 million budget. The fourth season will be set in a luxury resort in France during the Cannes Film Festival, per the show’s official press release.
