Ilona Maher Reveals Real Reason 10,000 Condoms Were ‘Used’ During Winter Olympics

The condoms provided to athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics might now have all been put to good use. Ilona Maher is skeptical about the rumor that more than 10,000 prophylactics were “used” during the games in Milan Cortina.

The former rugby player believes that notion is rather far-fetched. She captured a bronze medal with the US team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The social media influencer weighed in on the condom speculation recently.

The Olympian claimed many were “used as souvenirs”

Evidently, safe sex isn’t the only use for condoms. While she acknowledges some at the recent games were used for that purpose, she claims that many of them were merely “souvenirs.” The 29-year-old proceeded to show off a condom she got from her Olympic gift bag at the 2020 games in Tokyo. She says that she has a handful of them as mementos from her time at the Olympics.

Ilona revealed that the Olympic condoms in her possession serve as an incentive for any guys she might get intimate with in the future. In her Instagram video, she shared how she had a man over one time and showed him the expired condom she got from the Tokyo Olympics. By doing so, she says she “asserted dominance,” adding that the lucky man then knew Ilona was expecting an “Olympic performance.”

A week into the 2026 Olympics, it was reported that thousands of free condoms disappeared. The suggestion was that they’d been snapped up and gone within 72 hours of the games commencing.

While she hasn’t played rugby since the summer of 2025, Ilona has been prospering as an influencer. She is among the most followed people in women’s rugby. Online, she advocates for body positivity and increased awareness of women’s sports. In 2024, she was announced as a brand ambassador for Secret deodorant. She previously co-founded a skincare brand known as Medalist.
