During the interview, Colin Jost explained that he first started thinking about this scenario back in 2020. He claimed Donald Trump could eventually argue that Democrats “stole” part of his presidency through impeachments and investigations.
The “Saturday Night Live” star jokingly predicted Trump would say, “This is actually my first term, so I get one more,” before adding that the Supreme Court could end up overlooking the Constitution. Jost added that “we just have to prepare for it.” The comments left Rahma visibly uncomfortable as the discussion shifted from comedy into serious political territory.
The U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two elected terms. Moreover, constitutional scholars have repeatedly stated there is no legal path for Trump to run again in 2028. Law expert Michael Gerhardt also previously described the idea as “completely unprecedented.”
Still, Trump himself has continued fueling speculation. Last year, he declined to fully rule out a third-term scenario when reporters questioned him about it.
