Travis Kelce’s mom Donna shares his routine to prepare for NFL return
Donna Kelce has offered a glimpse into her son Travis Kelce’s disciplined preparation as he readies himself for his return to the NFL.
“He always goes into his own routine with training, and it’s brutal,” she told PEOPLE while discussing her partnership with GameChanger. “Then he goes to actual training camp. He has to get ready before he goes to training camp. It’s a long process. It’s months to get ready. That’s what he’s doing right now.”
After a subpar season for the Chiefs and mounting speculation about his retirement, Travis Kelce rejoined the team. He had stated in January that his return to the league would depend on certain circumstances.
“At the same time, if my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think, I would do it in a heartbeat,” Kelce opened up to his brother Jason on a January episode of their New Heights podcast. Two months later, he inked a one-year, $12 million agreement.
After the three-time Super Bowl champion made it official, Fox Sports caster Charissa Thompson told PEOPLE that the NFL is simply “better” with Travis Kelce on the field.
“And just being able to cover Travis, for now, the better part of almost two decades, it’s been exciting and I just love having him on the field and being able to watch him play and leave on his own terms,” the 44-year-old added.
A 2013 draft pick, Travis Kelce owns multiple Super Bowl rings, 11 Pro Bowls, and the tight end records for 1,000+ yard seasons, consecutive and overall.
His next official game is the Kansas City Chiefs’ preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The fixture is set to take place at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
