Troubled Actor Mickey Rourke Addresses Past With Ex-Wife in Rambling Social Media Post

The Hollywood star Mickey Rourke has expressed his regret over his marriage to Carré Otis. The 73-year-old actor called himself a “fool” and acknowledged his role in the breakdown of their relationship.

Mickey Rourke calls himself a ‘fool’ in a public apology to ex-wife Carré Otis

Sharing an Instagram reel on June 1, the Oscar-nominated actor wrote, Wrong (girl) not her fault, all my mistake. I was a fool fit so many yrs, not her fault at all. I just made a blind, terrible mistake, big regret, not her fault, all my blame,” followed by butterfly and praying hands emojis.

Rourke and Otis got married in 1992 and divorced in 1998. Otis is known for her roles in Wild Orchid (1989), Exit in Red (1996), and Under Heavy Fire. In Wild Orchid, Otis starred alongside Rourke. He played the character James Wheeler, a manipulative, wealthy businessman, while Otis made her acting debut as Emily Reeda, a naive American lawyer.

Otis accused Rourke of abuse during their relationship. According to The Los Angeles Times, the actor was charged with a spousal battery for allegedly slapping Otis. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 bail. The charges were later dropped.

Otis detailed the abuse allegations in her 2011 book Beauty, Disrupted: A Memoir. In the same year, she gave an interview to Huffington Post where the journalist asked, “You were a successful model, but he was physically and mentally abusive—why didn’t you walk away?” To which the actress replied, “That’s how abusive relationships go down, there’s a certain factor of isolation. We were both from really dysfunctional backgrounds, and we both had the perfect ground to feed that dysfunction because we didn’t have tools and I was a kid! I was a young person and obviously greatly influenced by one of America’s greatest actors at that moment.”

Otis is now married to chemical engineer Matthew Sutton, with whom she shares two children, reports Parade. While Rourke is currently single, he recently appeared in the 2026 action-thriller film Bring the Law.
