FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Calls Scott Pelley ‘Out of Touch’ in CBS Dispute

FCC Chair Brendan Carr threw shade at former 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley after the 68-year-old broadcast journalist told an outlet that the idea of being fired was “the furthest thing” from his mind. Taking a dig, Carr wrote on his social media handle about “many legacy journalists are completely out of touch.”

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr seems to think Scott Pelley’s behavior is what impacted his career

On June 2, Scott Pelley, who had been part of the program since 2004, was reportedly fired by new executive producer Nick Bilton. Pelley addressed his firing via an Instagram post, writing, “There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.”

He also responded to the firing, as reported by Deadline, saying, “The new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration. The waste is heartbreaking.”

In a recent interview with The New York Times, published on June 7, Pelley expressed, when asked whether he expected to be fired, “Oh gosh, furthest thing from my mind. It hadn’t occurred to me.”

Pelley also targeted editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, previously suggesting she lacked the qualifications for her role, adding that she had “slender qualifications for this job.” He said, “We need adult supervision, and at the moment we don’t have it. We have people who’ve been installed in these jobs who, through no fault of their own, have no experience in television. They don’t know what they’re doing. And there’s a subtle political bias that I’ve never seen at ’60 Minutes’ before or at CBS News before.”

Reacting to Pelley’s shock over his dismissal, Carr wrote on X on June 7 that the trust in media is low because many legacy journalists are out of touch, further stating, “You could not get away with that behavior at any run-of-the-mill job. It is revealing to see how blind some are to that.”
