President Donald Trump warned JD Vance about the Iran deal’s outcome. Vance will sign the formal agreement on Friday in Switzerland. Speaking at the G7 summit on Wednesday, Trump joked that he would take “credit” if the US-Iran peace deal succeeds, but blame Vance if it falls apart.
Donald Trump ‘warns’ JD Vance about Iran deal
Trump commented while explaining why he is sending Vance to represent the US at a formal deal-signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. “If it works out, I’m going to take the credit. If it doesn’t work out, I’m blaming JD,” Trump said at the press conference. He followed up with a warning. “You better be careful, JD. He’s going to turn his plane around and get the hell out of here,” Trump said.
The comment came as questions swirl around the timeline and transparency of the agreement. JD Vance told Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM on Tuesday that the text of the memorandum of understanding has not yet been made public due to ongoing diplomatic sensitivities. He said the document is still expected to be released this week, possibly as early as Wednesday, but no later than Friday.
“The reason why we haven’t released it yet is there are some delicate diplomatic things going on,” Vance said, noting that Iran and mediating countries, including Pakistan and Qatar, had requested careful coordination of the rollout.
Vance admitted he did not fully grasp the reasoning behind the delay. “I don’t, frankly, fully understand it, but there are sensitivities that exist in the Arab and Muslim world that we’re trying to be responsive to,” he said.
Donald Trump and JD Vance electronically signed the preliminary agreement on Sunday, aiming to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after months of closure that disrupted global oil supply. Vance is set to represent the US at the formal signing ceremony in Switzerland.
