Angelina Jolie recently revealed that her children helped keep her “fighting spirit” alive. The “Maleficent” star is currently busy promoting her new movie, “Couture.” She stars in the film as Maxine, a movie director who attends Paris Fashion Week but receives a breast cancer diagnosis.

Angelina Jolie and “Couture” director Alice Winocour recently sat down for an interview with Variety. At one point, the actress referred to her private life and divorce from Brad Pitt. “I think my fighting spirit is finally back,” she said. “I lost it for a bit. I got kind of taken down a little bit, and it’s coming back in large part thanks to my children, who are now older, and encouraging it.”
Jolie and Pitt shared six children during their marriage: Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne. She further explained, “My kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to get out and do things. They know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot. I think they’re very encouraging of me kind of getting back to aspects of myself that maybe I hadn’t felt as free to do.”
During the interview, Winocour revealed that she chose Jolie because she had a “punk spirit.” When asked if she considers herself punk, the actress said, “I think I’m more punk now.” She explained, “Yes, it has an energy, but it’s also kind of the counter movement to a lot of what’s happening.”
Jolie continued, “So even sometimes my privacy or not completely being sucked into a lot of things or movements — sometimes the doing less, or being private, when the world is the way it is right now, that is an opposite.” Her new film “Couture” will be in theaters in the US on June 26.
