Michael Byrne passes away at the age of 82
According to The Guardian, Byrne had died at 82. He is now survived by his wife, Carole, and two children, named Tara and Bryony. The cause of death hasn’t been disclosed publicly. He appeared for the final time in the 2022 British crime drama series Strike. It’s a series based on the Cormoran Strike books by J.K. Rowling, written under the pen name Robert Galbraith. It follows the story of detective Cormoran Strike, who is approached by a woman seeking his help in finding her missing mother. While he agrees, he faces constant challenges in the case and is unable to find concrete witnesses. In it, Byrne played Roy Phipps.
Byrne’s acting career officially started in the 1960s. He made his acting debut in The Scarlet Blade, followed by The Silent Playground and The Image. However, he started to receive attention during the 1970s, when he took on several military roles. He gained fame with his role as Colonel Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. His character was a key antagonist. Colonel Vogel was a sadistic and ruthless official in the Schutzstaffel who aided Walter Donovan’s search for the Holy Grail for Adolf Hitler.
Moreover, another famous performance of his is Gellert Grindelwald in the 2010 Harry Potter movie. His character was considered the most powerful wizard of all time, alongside Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort.
