In her recent Instagram post, Dolly Parton has announced “Dolly: A True Original Musical“. It is set to arrive on Broadway soon. The preview performance for the same is set to begin this December in New York City. The musical itself is all set to have a grand opening on January 19, 2027. The date also marks her 81st birthday.
The singer feels the production is a reflection of her own journey. “It’s about where I really come from,” Parton said. “What I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved.” She says the musical will unfold in her own words.
While it is very close to her heart, Parton will not perform in the production. Instead, it features her beloved catalog. The audience would also get to hear many new original songs. Bartlett Sher, the Tony Award-winning director, is all set to direct the production.
“This really is a dream come true,” Parton added. “I can’t wait to share it with all of you.” The musical initially debuted in Nashville, after which there were significant creative changes to it. It will now officially open at the St. James Theatre.
This announcement came after Parton’s recent health challenges. She had previously had to cancel her work commitments to focus on her recovery. The singer shared that treatments are helping her feel better. However, she feels she would take more time to return to full performances with the same zeal.
