Kanye West’s legal troubles continue as the rapper faces another lawsuit over legal cost claims. The former employee is seeking $1.2 million in lawyers’ fees after previously winning a lawsuit against the producer.
Anthony Saxon Netelkos alleges Kanye West failed to pay legal fees
Anthony Saxon Netelkos, a former West employee, was previously sued by Kanye over claims that he improperly used the rapper’s Malibu home as leverage. However, the rapper lost against Netelkos and was asked to pay $140,000 as per the court orders.
Now, Netelkos has filed against West for legal fees. According to TMZ, the official documents read that the Netelkos lawyer’s fee should be covered by West after the hefty damages paid on the jury’s order. Ye is reportedly liable to pay legal fees under the California Labor Code.
The former Ye employee says the record producer should pay 740 hours put in by his attorney and additional hours by support staff. The documents state the fee should be multiplied by 1.75x for the case complexity.
The case that took three years involved five defense lawyers representing Netelkos, whose legal fees West is now asked to pay. According to the documents, the multiple jury proceedings and depositions led to the firm paying $300,000 from its pocket, risking its payday if it lost.
Additionally, Saxon’s legal team said Kanye West sought a $100,000 settlement before trial, and later asked Netelkos to pay $200,000. They also blamed Kanye for making their case more complicated by filing separate lawsuits.
Earlier in March, Netelkos was awarded $140,000 as the American rapper failed to pay workers’ compensation insurance. The new filing against a 49-year-old seeks more than $1.2 million in legal costs from the original lawsuit.
The court has yet to rule on the request; this lawsuit has added another legal challenge for the rapper.
