Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Is Near Record Lows as Midterms Loom

President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has sunk to near-historic lows, a new poll shows, piling pressure on his administration just months before crucial midterm elections. The findings quantify public discontent as Iran war and economic unease dominate the national conversation.

The Economist/YouGov poll finds 37% approve of Trump and 59% disapprove

The latest survey by The Economist and YouGov shows Donald Trump’s approval rating at a stark 37%, with 59% of respondents saying they disapprove of his performance. The poll, conducted 10-13 July among 1,616 adults, carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

Public perception of America’s global standing has also taken a hit. A clear majority, 54%, said the country’s position in the world has worsened since the start of Trump’s second term.

Beyond his overall numbers, Trump also got pushback on foreign policy. A majority of those surveyed voiced disapproval of how the president has managed the war with Iran. In the most recent wave, 59% said they strongly or somewhat disapproved of his actions — a figure that has remained elevated since hostilities began, having peaked at 64% in late May.

Furthermore, the public’s pessimism about the trajectory of the conflict was echoed in a separate Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday. That survey found 79% of Americans believe U.S. military operations in Iran will “go on for an extended period of time.”

It also showed 58% opposed to American strikes against Iran. The dual polls landed as renewed attacks shattered a preliminary ceasefire, with Trump declaring the agreement “over” and tensions continuing to escalate across the region.

Moreover, Donald Trump’s approval rating has been underwater for more than a year. According to major polling averages tracked as of July 14, his numbers remain negative. RealClearPolitics shows 41% approval against 56.4% disapproval. The New York Times average stands at 39% approval and 58% disapproval, while the Silver Bulletin records 40% approval and 56.4% disapproval.

With the midterms approaching, the White House faces a narrowing window to reverse the trend.
