Matt Damon opened up about how a five-word reaction from his daughter, whom he shares with Luciana Barroso, made all his hard work on “The Odyssey” worth it. The Hollywood star portrays the lead Greek hero, Odysseus, in Christopher Nolan’s epic drama.
Matt Damon reveals daughter’s reaction after seeing ‘The Odyssey’ made filming ‘all worth it’
In a new interview with PEOPLE posted on July 14, Matt Damon opened up about the physically demanding shoot and his strict diet. At one point, he also revealed how his daughter’s reaction after watching the movie made it “all worth it.” He said, “I have one daughter who’s really not reverential at all and loves to give me s*** and that’s really funny.”
“She saw The Odyssey and at the end of it she actually turned to me and she said, ‘Dad, I’m proud of you,'” he said. “She’s never said anything like that ’cause we joke around a lot. At that point, I was kind of like, ‘I’m good. It was all worth it.'”
“The Talented Mr Ripley” star sports a fuzzy beard in “The Odyssey”, and it is his natural facial hair. In an interview with USA Today, Damon revealed that Christopher Nolan told him to grow a beard for logistical reasons. He said, “Like any movie problem, the best solve is a practical one. If I was going to be thrown into the water, a hand-laid beard would just come off in salt water. He [Nolan] was like, ‘The only solution is just to have the beard.'”
“So I had a big, bushy beard for a year or so. My kids thought I looked like Santa Claus,” Damon said. For those unversed, he has four daughters, Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, with his wife, Luciana. “The Odyssey” will be in cinemas across the US from July 17.
