Seth Rogen shared an awkward moment with co-star Penelope Cruz while filming an intimate scene for The Invite.
He revealed that he kept saying “Thank you” to Cruz throughout the scene, leaving director Olivia Wilde puzzled. The reaction was unexpected, even though the actors had been encouraged to improvise.
Seth Rogen repeatedly thanked Penélope Cruz while improvising an intimate scene in The Invite
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor recalled filming an intimate scene with Penélope Cruz. While shooting the romantically charged moment, he could not stop saying “Thank you” to the actress. Rogen explained, saying, “There’s a scene where me and her are having a romantically charged moment, and it seems like we might hook up with one another, and I just kept saying, ‘Thank you.'”
According to Page Six, he also revealed that the director was surprised and asked Rogen why he kept saying it. Rogen explained that the response simply reflected how he would react in real life. “All I have is gratitude. I would be apologetic and thankful. I’m sorry,” he said.
The actor, who has been married to writer and actress Lauren Miller since 2011, also revealed that he was mindful of the fact that Cruz is married to fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem. Jokingly, he said he was sure Bardem did not consider him “a legitimate threat in any way, shape or form.”
Rogen also described the film as featuring several improvised moments, including one in which Cruz sings Sade during a romantic scene, a sequence he described as both “sexy” and strangely funny. His own improvisation also came at a cost. He recalled suggesting a scene in which he falls while trying to pull up his pants. Although the scene made it into the movie, he said his shoulder remained injured for seven months.
The Invite stars Olivia Wilde as Angela and Seth Rogen as her husband, Joe, whose marriage is tested after they encounter a wealthy couple, Pina and Hawk, played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton. Directed by Wilde, the comedy explores desire, relationships, and temptation through a mix of awkward humor and improvisation.
