Prince Harry lands new host for 2029 Invictus Games
As per PEOPLE, Prince Harry will host the 2029 Invictus Games in South Korea. On July 20, it was announced that the latest venue will be in Daejeon, South Korea. Notably, it is the first Asian venue for the coveted games outside of the UK. It will follow the 2027 games, which Birmingham will host. Interestingly, the Duke of Sussex was recently in Britain to honor the one-year countdown to next year’s Invictus Games.
Harry announced: “We are delighted to announce Daejeon, South Korea, as the host of the 2029 Invictus Games and, on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation, we are so excited to work together.”
Continuing further, he stated: “As the first Asian nation selected to host the Games, the Republic of Korea represents an exciting new chapter in our journey to ensure that more wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans can benefit from the power of sport and the strength of the Invictus community.”
Notably, South Korea beat out two other shortlisted contenders, including San Diego, California, for the host spot. According to the outlet, the games will feature 12 sports from October 6 to 15, 2029. The prestigious event will unite around 550 competitors from 26 nations, supported by their loved ones.
For those unversed, Harry was in England recently to attend important engagements related to the upcoming 2027 Invictus Games. He made a speech at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Harry said: “Not just because this is where the Invictus journey first began, but because Britain has always understood the importance of service, resilience, and standing together when it matters most.”
