Prince Harry’s resurfaced comment about Abbey Clancy has sparked renewed criticism
Peter Crouch, who recently appeared on Stick to Football, recalled the Duke of Sussex’s 11-year-old remarks.
Prince Harry, as a working royal, attended a UNICEF charity soccer match organized by David Beckham. During the match, Harry met players in the dressing room where he reportedly made remarks about Crouch’s wife, model Abbey Clancy. Crouch said Harry made a joke about having gorgeous Abbey Clancy as his wife.
Harry reportedly asked, “How did you bag Abbey?”
The former footballer was surprised by his comments, but couldn’t say anything as he was a prince.
The remark has left people surprised as royal insiders spoke about Prince Harry’s controversy, according to Radar.
The royal insider said, “There is no doubt Harry has matured over the years. But comments like this inevitably look different when viewed through a modern lens. Given the values Meghan has publicly championed, many people would expect her to cringe if she heard that exchange repeated today.”
“The remark was made long before Harry met Meghan, but its reappearance has prompted uncomfortable conversations because it jars with the image the couple now project,” added another source.
Peter Crouch discussed the incident on the show when hosts asked whether Harry made the comments. Soon after the clip was posted, online users called out the Duke of Sussex.
One user commented, “He was so rude! Harry suggesting Crouchy wasn’t good enough as well as talking about women as if they are some sort of ‘game sport’ to be ‘bagged’. Disgusting behaviour.?”
