Katie Lee Biegel has shared a celebrity encounter that left a lasting impression on her. The cookbook author and TV personality shared the anecdote in a recent episode of her Katie Lee Kitchen podcast. She recalled the incident while talking about her time with her former husband, Billy Joel.

Biegel said that her “not-so-nice” celebrity encounter was with actor Chevy Chase. She recalled the story from the time she and Billy Joel owned a summer house; they planned a Tear-the-House-Down party.
Biegel said they celebrated the end of the season with an old-school keg party. She explained, “I wanted to have like an old-school keg party,” and said the event included kegs, Jell-O shots, and many celebrity guests.
She recalled Joel stood with Chase and his wife during the party. She had a tray of Jell-O shots, and she asked, “Do you guys want a shot?” Biegel then said she was mistaken for a staff member by Chase. She recalled that he “took his hand and shooed me away” instead of responding to her.
Chase has been the subject of public criticism for years regarding his actions on film and TV sets. Reports from his time on Community claimed he had a “full meltdown” on set after he allegedly used a racial slur.
Those reports also claimed the incident resulted in his being ousted during the show’s fourth season. Chase later told The New York Times, “It wasn’t a bad experience. I just didn’t think it was that good, the show.”
Biegel shared the story while reflecting on memories from an earlier chapter of her life. She and Billy Joel divorced in 2009 after five years of marriage. She later married television producer Ryan Biegel in 2018 and started a new chapter with her family. Her podcast continues to give listeners a closer look at both her personal life and career.
