Donald Trump is deciding major attack on Iran
President Donald Trump told Axios on Thursday that he is close to deciding on a major military operation against Iran. The potential strikes would surpass the scale of Operation Epic Fury, which began in February 2026. Trump stated in the interview that preparations are already complete for the operation.
“I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it,” Trump told the outlet. He added that Israel would quickly join the effort if asked. Trump also said the United States does not need assistance from any ally to carry out the strikes.
The remarks came as the U.S. House voted 214 to 208 to restrict Trump’s war powers in Iran. Four Republicans crossed party lines to support the resolution sponsored by Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal. Republican Reps. Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson backed the measure (via CNN).
The Senate later rejected a similar effort in a 47-to-49 vote. Republican Sen. Susan Collins voted with Democrats to limit the president’s authority. Democratic Sen. John Fetterman sided with Republicans to block the measure. The concurrent resolution does not carry the force of law. It does not require the president’s signature and cannot compel the administration to end military operations.
“I think that Americans of all backgrounds are sick of seeing the United States enter wars without justification, spending trillions of dollars in our engagements abroad,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told reporters.
Jayapal suggested some Republicans avoided the vote entirely. She said they did not want to explain a “no” vote to constituents during the August recess. The votes followed an escalation in the conflict after a recent ceasefire collapsed. Iran on Thursday claimed strikes on U.S. military targets in Jordan and Kuwait.
