LeBron James has signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. According to his agent, Rich Paul, the four-time NBA champion chose the team for his 24th season after considering several options.

Paul discussed the mental strain James experienced as he chose his next team for his 24th NBA season. The decision came after he ended his eight-year run with the Los Angeles Lakers. He spoke about the decision on his Game Over podcast, co-hosted with Max Kellerman, on July 24. In the podcast, he says, “You can see from the end of the season … the emotional attachments and how hard it is to go away from a Miami and go away from a Cleveland,” adding, “Who wouldn’t want to play with Steph Curry and Draymond Green?”
Paul said he witnessed LeBron’s “emotional roller coaster” throughout the decision-making process. He confirmed that the star had considered the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors as potential destinations. These were the teams under consideration before he made his final decision.
In a post on X, the 41-year-old LeBron revealed that he needed time to consider his future. He said he felt he was done at the end of the season. He wrote, “I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game.”
However, he later stated, “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.” The 41-year-old began his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 at age 18. After this he joined the Miami Heat from 2010 to 2014. He returned to the Cavaliers from 2014 to 2018. Later, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers until deciding not to return for his 24th NBA season.
