Wilbur, the runaway pig who captured attention after being spotted running loose through a West Hollywood neighborhood, has officially been adopted. Grammy-winning songwriter and animal welfare activist Diane Warren has given him a permanent home.
Diane Warren adopted Wilbur after the runaway pig was found roaming West Hollywood
Wilbur’s journey to finding a home began when e-bike rider Jamaal Harrison spotted him running through the streets near Fairfax Boulevard. The pig, believed to be about 11 weeks old, later arrived at a local shelter and became available for adoption.
Wilbur quickly attracted interest, with four people hoping to adopt him. Because of the demand, the shelter held a silent auction to choose his new owner. Marcia Zwilling, managing director of the Diane Warren Foundation, made the winning bid.
Warren told Variety, “A lot of my friends were sending me footage of this poor little pig running through the streets of West Hollywood.” She added, “I called my friend Marcia Zwilling, who runs my Animal Foundation. We agreed that we gotta save this pig! It reminds me that five years ago, when my animal activist good friend Simone Reyes and I saved a cow which was known as ‘free the cow.'”
She continued, “Marcia went this morning [August 20] to the shelter where they were auctioning the pig, and as Marcia said, ‘Whatever it takes, we gotta get this pig and give him a safe, wonderful home.’ So BY ANY MEANS we did! Wilbur is the cutest little thing, and he’s a celebrity now! We are all in love with him. Animals are precious sentient creatures. Welcome, Wilbur!!!”
This is not Warren’s first animal rescue. In 2021, she helped secure sanctuary for a cow that escaped from a slaughterhouse and later roamed a Pico Rivera neighborhood. She told the Associated Press at the time, “This isn’t my first cow I’ve saved. But this feels like a special cow. Because this was that one. So it’s almost like she represents all cows wanting to be free.”
