Jim Thornton denies wrongdoing allegations following his suspension from Wheel of Fortune
Sony Pictures Television Studios confirmed Thornton’s suspension in a statement to TMZ. “We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton,” the studio said. “He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune, and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.” The studio didn’t specify the nature of the allegations or give a reason for the suspension.
According to TMZ, the alleged incident occurred on a commercial flight in May. During the flight, a passenger allegedly complained to a flight attendant about Thornton. Sources with direct knowledge told the outlet that the pilot called ahead for law enforcement to meet the plane. Officers questioned Thornton after the flight arrived at the gate and later allowed him to leave.
On May 14, American Airlines confirmed it had an incident on Flight 1276. “American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard,” the airline told the outlet. Thornton reportedly wore a Wheel of Fortune jacket when officers questioned him. Now his lawyer strongly denies any wrongdoing.
“[Thornton] did not engage in any illegal conduct, was not arrested, and has not been charged with any crime,” his attorney told TMZ. The attorney said law enforcement spoke with Thornton for “five minutes or less” and “immediately determined that no wrongdoing had occurred.” According to the statement, officers then told Thornton he was free to go. Thornton also appeared in a pre-taped episode of Wheel of Fortune on Tuesday evening.
