American Eagle Replaces Sydney Sweeney With 84-Year-Old TV Star

Martha Stewart, 84, replaces Sydney Sweeney as the latest face of American Eagle. Stewart stars in the holiday special campaign for the denim brand’s “Give Great Jeans” holiday campaign. Notably, Sweeney headlined American Eagle’s “Great Jeans” summer campaign, which ran into hot water with a certain section of the audience.

American Eagle enlists Martha Stewart for new campaign after Sydney Sweeney

Martha Stewart spearheads American Eagle’s new holiday special campaign after backlash erupted over their summer campaign starring Sweeney. Dressed in denim from head to toe, Stewart showcases her effortless charisma in the new video campaign.

In the video, Stewart remarks, “This holiday season we are settling for nothing less than a perfect fit.” She then proceeds to wrap various gifts in American Eagle’s denim cloth material, cutting and stitching it to perfection. Pleased with her efforts, she quips, “They’re seamless,” while holding a denim-wrapped package. “This gift is giving. Giving generously during the holiday season is one of my greatest joys,” she adds.

It appears American Eagle enlisted Stewart, 84, to headline their holiday campaign after the massive backlash over Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” campaign. Notably, they modified the tagline slightly in an attempt to pacify angry consumers.

For those unversed, Sweeney’s “Great Jeans” summer campaign faced massive backlash for allegedly promoting genetic superiority. At the time, American Eagle denied this via a statement shared on their Instagram.

They wrote, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

At the time, Sweeney maintained a dignified silence on the raging controversy. She recently addressed the issue in an exclusive with GQ. When asked if she was “surprised by the reaction,” she replied, “I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans.”

She continued, “All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.” The interviewer prodded her further, and she simply stated, “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.”
