Mystery has long surrounded what happened between Solange Knowles and Jay Z in an elevator at the 2014 Met Gala. However, more than a decade on from the incident, a fashion designer has revealed details … and Bey Z fans aren’t going to like it.
A fashion designer spoke their truth about the elevator drama
To recap, after the 2014 Met Gala, a video leaked that showed Solange seemingly attacking Jay Z in an elevator. In the clip, which understandably went viral, Solange pushed her brother-in-law into a corner while security attempted to restrain her. Beyoncé was a witness to all this and spoke to her sister and husband, but didn’t get involved physically.
At the time, there were plenty of theories as to what could have provoked Solange to confront Jay Z. One theory suggests she was angry over claims he had an affair with fashion designer Rachel Roy.
Now, another fashion designer has weighed in. He told the Daily Mail that Rachel was a factor in Solange and Jay Z’s argument. Reflecting on the night, Oscar G. Lopez said Jay Z ran into Rachel at the Met Gala and complimented her dress, which he’d designed.
“I think that Jay complimented her about the gown and Beyoncé’s sister felt that it was not proper,” he claimed. “So [that] was a kind of a drama.”
Drama aside, Oscar – who designed Rachel’s dress after winning Under The Gunn Season 1 – said that “any press is good press.”
“Sometimes you benefit from a scandal, not even being part of it in a very direct way,” he said. “Let’s just call it collateral damage.”
