The new 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem failed to impress football fans. The same is true for the artists chosen to perform it. Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger inspired fans to share their displeasure online. Many fans said they did not like the new song at all. Guess this one isn’t going in the favorites book.
Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger’s Desire was labeled a “trash song” by viewers on social media
Robbie penned the song, entitled Desire. It will be the soundtrack of next year’s highly anticipated World Cup. Robbie and Nicole performed the song live at the FIFA 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, DC.
Ironically, the lyrics were all about destiny and dreams coming true but fans felt it fell flat. As did the seemingly random pairing of reality television lover Robbie and Tony Award winner Nicole.
Afia on X asked, “What do Nicole Scherzinger and Robbie Williams even have in common? Apart from being singers to make this trash song?”
Terry on X dubbed it “one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard.”
Plus, if the song wasn’t surprising enough, the news that FIFA awarded President Donald Trump the Peace Prize also shocked fans. A contributing factor may be his attempt to fix the NFL football and soccer debate?
X user, Tash Everitt, wrote that their brain was feeling “mental” after watching “Infantino leading a US chant, President Donald Trump winning the FIFA Peace Prize, and Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger debuting a stinker!”
“They forced us to watch Robbie Williams and Nicole Scherzinger singing, and now we have to watch Trump get a FIFA Peace Prize. F*ck off. I just want to see if England gets Haiti or Curaçao,” Ed Acteson wrote on X.
Further, it looks like this new song won’t be joining the ranks of iconic anthems for the World Cup. Songs like We are the Dreamers by BTS’s Jung Kook, La Copa de la Vida by Ricky Martin, or Shakira’s Waka Waka are timeless.
