Buckle up, because there’s a lot to unpack with this week’s episode of Married to Medicine. Last week, Toya mourned the tragic loss of her dog and then threw massive shade at Dr. Heavenly’s political aspirations. Meanwhile, Quad and Simone looked like bad soap actresses, crying and screaming over their years-old feud. Fortunately, we didn’t have to hear about any of that nonsense in Married to Medicine Season 12 Episode 3, “The Player’s Ball.” Instead, it was all eyes on Dr. Contessa’s 49th birthday.
What happened on Married to Medicine Season 12 Episode 3?

After Dr. Simone spent Episode 2 fighting with Quad, she shifted her focus to her husband and kids. Those boys got an earful from her this week. Meanwhile, Dr. Contessa planned a $40,000 birthday party, only to feel upstaged a few days later by Brandi’s understated birthday dinner. In the end, we got some eye-opening new insight into one of the show’s longest-running marriages.
Contessa’s $40,000 birthday party

This season, Dr. Contessa and Dr. Scott opened up about the massive amount of money they’ve poured into opening their own medical office building. With that in mind, it was pretty surprising to learn in Episode 3 that Dr. Contessa was planning to drop $40,000 on her 70s-themed birthday party. Even more shocking? She said she’s never had a birthday party.
Just like everyone watching, Toya had a hard time wrapping her head around this information. After all of these years of marriage, how has her husband not thrown her a birthday party? And why are you investing so much money into a party? This isn’t The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!
Contessa told her friends she wanted her husband to celebrate her, but she decided to move forward with the five-figure bash on her own. If Scott won’t throw her a party, she’ll throw one for her damn self.
Quad is heading to Ghana

In Season 11, Quad opened up about her desire to have a family, and she started IVF with her new partner, King. Of course, she looped in Dr. Jackie to help her with the process.
With that in mind, the Season 12 trailer left us a little confused when we heard Quad mention going to Ghana for her treatment. Why go to Ghana for what you can get in Atlanta? We got all of the answers in Episode 3.
Apparently, Quad knows someone in her age group who went to a doctor in Ghana and suddenly got pregnant with triplets. Quad said she wants to meet with that doctor and have them work their magic on her uterus. We’ll be coming along for the journey this season!
You can tell Quad is eager to make some progress, but King might be even more excited. It’s not because he’s just dying to be a father — he said that’s a “bullet” he’s been “dodging” for his entire life. He’s excited for progress because the IVF treatments have put Quad on a hormonal rollercoaster, and he’s getting exhausted. Is that a red flag?
Simone feels outnumbered in her household

While Miss Quad is focused on starting a family, Dr. Simone is slowly losing her sanity because of hers. At this point, it’s a tale as old as time: She wants her sons to try to act like adults, and it never goes as planned. Remember when she and Cecil bought them an apartment and then had to clean it too?
Since Season 11, it doesn’t seem like much has changed. Both sons had just graduated from college, but their son Michael now wants them to foot the bill for law school. At a family dinner, he told his parents he also wanted them to buy him a new car. It’s a lot for someone who can’t clean their own apartment and spent $60,000 on a credit card in one year.
“I do have a mother who makes pretty good money,” Michael told his mom in his defense.
You could pretty much see Dr. Simone’s blood pressure rising with every word that came out of Michael’s mouth. He tried to explain to her that she should just keep paying for his life, just because she can. When Cecil ended up taking his side, poor Simone lost her mind.
“The bottom line is you are so f*cking entitled is what this revealed to me,” Simone screamed at a decibel level so high that it could probably be heard from space. “I’m done!”
Brandi’s birthday dinner triggers Contessa

Dr. Contessa’s $40,000 party looked fabulous. Everyone showed up in costume (except for Dr. Damon), and she had her hopes up that Scott would surprise her in some way at the party. That didn’t happen. He showed up, but that was it. Zero contributions.
A few days later, it was Brandi’s birthday. In a total contrast to Contessa’s glitzy event, her husband paid for the entire cast to go out for dinner and drinks. Is it a $40,000 event? No. Is it a sweet gesture? Absolutely.
Of course, Brandi felt super thankful for her husband’s gift, but Contessa started throwing shade over the fact that it wasn’t as elaborate as her party. She said she’d feel “underwhelmed” if her husband threw a party like Brandi’s.
It seemed pretty obvious to everyone at the table that Contessa felt a little jealous seeing Brandi’s husband doing everything that Scott wouldn’t. When Toya pointed that out, Contessa got defensive.
She said, “The question becomes: What is this paternalistic world where some man has to throw sh*t for me? I make as much money as him.”
As Dr. Heavenly astutely pointed out, this isn’t new behavior from Contessa. She likes to complain about her husband, and then gets mad if anyone mentions it. As the conversation continued, Contessa admitted that she’s just holding out hope that things will get better.
“We’ve been married for 20 years, and if I spent all of my time focusing on the negatives, I would be like many of my girlfriends out here that are single,” Contessa said. “And maybe at 30 years, he’s going to do some of those things that I’ve asked for.
“I’ve been married for 29,” Simone interjected. “He’s not going to do anything.”
Is Dr. Simone’s marriage on the rocks?

One of the greatest moments to ever happen on a Bravo reunion stage went down in M2M Season 5, when the cast managed to save Dr. Simone’s marriage right there in front of Andy Cohen. For that reason, our jaws were on the ground at the end of Episode 3, when Simone hinted that she and Cecil might be back to that breaking point.
It happened at Brandi’s dinner, as the conversation continued about Contessa’s birthday blues, Quad started to weigh in. She jokingly said, “People here married and don’t even want to damn be married no damn more. Marriage ain’t just all of that!”
Simone replied, “Quad, who here doesn’t want to be married anymore other than me?”
Gasps! What? Quad couldn’t believe her ears, and honestly, neither could we. Was Simone just feeling frustrated from that fight with her family, or is there really something bigger brewing in the Whitmore household? If there is something bigger, can they come back from the edge as they did back in Season 5?
Married to Medicine continues on Bravo, every Sunday at 9/8c. You can stream it the next day on Peacock.
