In her new Disney+ docuseries, The End of Era, Taylor Swift discussed several personal topics, including her early reservations about dating an athlete like Travis Kelce. The Red singer admitted, “I’ve been very non-athlete because I’m not one, and I’ve always been like, ‘What would we talk about?’,” during a conversation with her mother, Andrea Swift, in the documentary.
Taylor Swift went on to recall how her mother encouraged her to meet Kelce after he made a public plea on the New Heights podcast. “So you call me up with this tone of, ‘Hey, I know you’re going to not react well to this, but there’s a guy…,” Swift said while recounting the moment. Her mother interjected, “He’s really cute.”
Taylor continued, “You said something to the effect of, ‘You gotta start doing something different.'”
Andrea then recalled how she first learned about Kelce. “I’m looking at the headlines and perusing around on the Internet, and I see that this guy came to your show and he brought a friendship bracelet and wants to meet you,” she said. Andrea added, “So I call up my resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs, my cousin Robin, and I go, ‘Tell me about this guy named Travis Kelce.’”
Robin’s response further reassured Andrea. “She goes, ‘Oh my God, he is the nicest guy! And he really loves his mom.’ And I went, ‘Ding, ding, ding, ding,’” Andrea recalled.
Things went perfectly for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce despite her initial fear of dating an athlete. The two ended up finding far more common ground between them.
After a period of dating, Travis and Taylor got engaged earlier this year.
