Noah Wyle of HBO’s medical drama The Pitt has surgically staked his claim in a friendly showdown between two iconic TV doctors. He declared himself the superior physician when compared to his former ER costar George Clooney during the 2026 Golden Globes.
Noah Wyle reacts to George Clooney comparison
Noah Wyle was asked by E! to compare his skills to Clooney’s Dr. Doug Ross from ER at the 2026 Golden Globes. “I’m the better doctor,” Wyle stated exclusively. He then issued a challenge to the Oscar winner, referencing the dense medical dialogue that defined their hit 1990s series.
Wyle suggested Clooney try to remember one of Dr. Ross’ classic speeches, boasting that he could still recall his own monologues as Dr. John Carter. “Put him to that test and see how well he does,” he quipped.
For his part, George Clooney, nominated this year for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy, has historically conceded Wyle’s talent for mastering complex medical jargon. On Late Night With Seth Meyers in June 2025, Clooney joked about their ER days, saying, “He never had any trouble. He always could do it, and I hated him for it.” He added, “People should hate Noah.”
Beyond the ribbing, Clooney expressed genuine pride and affection for his longtime friend. “We’ve been really dear friends since [ER], since we did the pilot,” Clooney shared. “He’s just the most honorable, talented young man — I get to say, because I’m an old man. And I cannot be happier for his success on this show,” he added.
Fans can continue to enjoy Noah Wyle’s doctoring skills on the acclaimed series The Pitt, which just returned for its Season 2 and has already been renewed for a third. Teasing the new episodes set during a chaotic Fourth of July shift, Wyle quipped, “You’re gonna mix alcohol, patriotism, and fireworks, that’s gonna be an explosive combination.”
Notably, Wyle went on to win the Best Male Actor in a Television Series (Drama) at the Golden Globes this year for his role in The Pitt.
