Netflix Hire Pete Davidson for Streamer’s Big First

Netflix are embarking on a new form of content for subscribers, with the help of Pete Davidson. The SNL alum is no stranger to the streamer, having two comedy specials produced by the service and participating in the Netflix Is A Joke festival.

Pete will host The Pete Davidson Show, launching on the platform on January 30. The show will be set mainly in the comedian’s garage, but that’s not the only twist on the format.

Pete Davidson will launch Netflix’s first original video podcast

The Pete Davidson show will be Netflix’s first video podcast, and will be exclusive to the streamer, according to a press release. This means the podcast will only be available to Netflix subscribers, and that typical podcast sources, such as Apple Podcasts or Spotify, will not have audio versions of the show.

“Netflix was the home of one of my first stand-up specials,” Pete told Deadline. “So it felt right to bring the podcast there, too. It’s me and my friends talking about anything and everything. It’s going to be a great time.”

Pete also said the show will take place in his garage because that’s where “all the best conversations will happen.” He also said he plans to take the show “on the road” during special episodes. This will probably involve some in-car conversations, similar to Netflix’s old comedy talk show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

The Pete Davidson Show will be produced by Above Average, the digital edition of Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video production company. As any comedy fan will tell you, Pete and Lorne have known each other since Pete’s days on SNL, which was originally created by Lorne back in 1975.

What makes a “video podcast” different from a TV show? Well, we’ll soon find out by the end of the month.
