A TikTok creator recently commented on Hailey and Justin Bieber’s relationship, calling the model a “Tolerant Codependent” to make her marriage work with the singer. However, the creator’s theory did not sit well with many, including singer-songwriter SZA, who defended the couple amid the social media drama.
SZA calls out TikToker for commenting on Hailey and Justin Bieber’s marriage
A TikToker named Julie Theis has recently garnered significant attention for her opinion on a celebrity’s relationship. In her TikTok and Instagram videos, the creator said that “Relationships only work when the woman is a Tolerant Codependent,” citing Hailey and Justin Bieber as one such “celebrity examples” among others.
She goes on to say that multiple celebrity relationships the people “romanticise” only work “because the woman is the tolerant codependent,” meaning woman “tolerates mediocrity, abuse, doing the majority of domestic and emotional labor in exchange for being in a relationship.”
Theis then states that “There is no better example than Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber,” saying that their relationship is working because Hailey is a “tolerant codepenedent.” She even claimed that the Rhode founder “will never leave Justin” and their relationship will work because the model “will tolerate that abuse.”
While many followers shared their opinion about the post in the comments, SZA defended the couple over Theis’s “theory of the Tolerant Codependent.”
“Hi are you a licensed therapist or psychologist? You speak with SUCH certainty and Id like to know . Peace,” she mentioned on her Instagram post.
She even went on to say that “publicly diagnosing people you have absolutely no contact with and presenting that information as fact under the premise of education.. may be a bit dangerous? For all parties including those you wish to educate just an opinion! All respect to you.”
Theis, who has “bachelors and masters degree in psychology” and has also “worked as behavioural specialist and researcher,” as mentioned in response to SZA’s query, even made claims about addiction and abuse within the couple’s relationship.
She even mentioned Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne as well as Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell as other “celebrity examples” whose relationships are working because of the “tolerant codepenedent.”
After the video gained attention, the creator later revealed in another Instagram video that she has received a cease and desist letter from attorney’s representing Hailey over their marriage take.
