King Charles has been put in a rather uncomfortable position. He’s trying to manage diplomacy and family life. That is proving to be rather difficult following Prince Harry’s words to Donald Trump.
Charles’ youngest son took issue with Trump, alleging NATO troops stayed a little back off the front lines during the war in Afghanistan. Harry did not take kindly to those comments, noting that he had served in the British Army in Afghanistan and had lost friends there. Insiders say that more than anything, Charles is “horrified by the timing” of his son’s comments. The King and his wife Camilla are expected to visit Trump in Washington, D.C., later this year to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
King Charles “understands the emotion” of Prince Harry
Balancing your business life and personal one is never easy. Charles is experiencing just how hard that is once again. On one hand, an insider tells Rob Shuter’s Substack Naughty but Nice that Charles “understands the emotion” Harry must be feeling. On the other hand, the insider says that the King is worried that this may sour what has been a good relationship between himself and the President.
Harry stated that 457 UK service personnel were killed in Afghanistan, leading to thousands of lives being changed forever. “Those sacrifices deserve to be spoken about truthfully and with respect,” said Harry. His strong words for Donald aren’t ideal for his father. Another source says that the King can’t clap back even if he agrees with his son. It’s reportedly made a sensitive situation much trickier.
Harry’s comments seemed to echo the UK’s Prime Minister’s sentiments. Last week, Keir Starmer called Donald’s comments about the war “insulting and frankly appalling.” He adds that if he were in the President’s shoes and had misspoken in such a way, he would apologize.
The complication lies in the fact that the UK and the US have a long-standing alliance. That’s something Keir said was important for the security and defense of both nations.
