An alleged assault involving Kiefer Sutherland has taken a strange turn. The 24 actor is accused of physically abusing a Rideshare driver on January 12, while also reportedly making felony criminal threats. The Emmy Award winner was absent from court on Monday.
The case had been sent to law enforcement for further examination, according to officials. Kiefer was not in court because the case against him had not been filed. The Canadian-born actor was said to have a conflict with a driver on Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. He was taken into custody on January 14.

There are plenty of unknowns as to what happens next in this matter. Kiefer was released on a $50,000 bond and will now await a court date to answer to these allegations. It’s possible he’s still facing charges related to this, but nothing formal has been laid against him, according to The Daily Mail.
It’s far from the first time the son of the late Donald Sutherland has been in trouble with the law. In 2008, Kiefer was released from prison following a 48-day sentence due to drunk driving. In 1993, he pleaded no contest in connection with an alcohol-related reckless driving incident. He had previously discussed his jail time publicly during an interview with David Letterman.
In May 2009, he surrendered to the NYPD police after reportedly head-butting designer Jack McCollough. Kiefer apologized to Jack about the matter, and the charges against him were eventually dropped.
Kiefer has previously undergone therapy sessions and attended alcohol education classes to try to help. He is set to star in the movie Sierra Madre, which is currently in post-production. Meanwhile, he is taking on the main role in Father Joe alongside Al Pacino, and written by Luc Besson.
