Avoiding death is a skill Susan Lucci has mastered both on and off screen. The All My Children actress portrayed Erica Kane on that soap opera for over 40 years. Throughout her time on the program, her character escaped countless near-death experiences. They included kidnappings, plane crashes and car accidents, among other things.
Susan has previously described Erica as someone who is fabulously flawed. The actress is sharing another frightening moment she previously had. As with her famous character, she was fortunate to walk away from the moment relatively unscathed. She even admits today, “I was so lucky.”

The Grim Reaper appears to be no match for Susan Lucci. The Daytime Emmy Award winner is sharing the first time she experienced a heart issue. On the Sirius XM program LIFT, Susan recalls one time that she “had a calcium blockage.” Susan says that there was 90% blockage in the main artery and 75% in the adjacent one.
She adds that she’s lucky she wasn’t home alone at the time of this incident. Had that been the case, doctors say she would have thought she just needed water and had gone to lie down. Had she done that, they believe she wouldn’t have woken up. “I avoided the widow maker,” added Susan.
That frightening episode is among the many topics she discusses in her newly released memoir. Last month, she teased that All My Children may be getting a reboot. That show has been off the air since 2013.
Death isn’t the only thing Susan, and her famous character are renowned for. The actress has missed out on multiple Daytime Emmys despite her name being on the shortlist year after year. During the run of All My Children, Susan earned 21 Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She only captured the award once, in 1999.
