Michelle Yeoh still can’t believe the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences completely ignored her film. When the 2026 Oscar nominations were announced on January 22, Wicked: For Good was totally MIA.
After all, the first Wicked installment, which debuted in November 2024, had earned 10 nominations. It went on to win two Oscars, for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
The sequel, Wicked: For Good, debuted one year later, in November 2025. Unfortunately, part two was totally snubbed by the Academy.
Michelle Yeoh was “very disappointed” by Wicked: For Good’s zero Oscar noms

“I’m not surprised — I am in shock! I really am,” Michelle told Variety, when asked about the snub. An Oscar winner herself, the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star took home the Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2023.
“I think sometimes the problem is that people think, ‘Oh, you already got so much with the first one, let other people have a chance,'” she add. “But then it feels like, ‘No, come on!’ It’s such a beautiful, well-made movie.”
“It’s not the replica of the first one,” she continued. “It’s more elaborate, and there are many more new destinations in Wicked: For Good. So I was truly, truly very disappointed.”
The first installment’s 10 nominations included Best Picture, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande. Of those 10, it won just two Oscars, one for Best Costume Design and the other for Best Production Design.
Though snubbed by the Oscars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both won Grammy Awards for the first Wicked’s soundtrack on February 1.
The upcoming 98th Academy Awards are set to air on March 15 at 7 pm ET on ABC and Hulu. Though at one time he threatened to quit, Conan O’Brien is set to host the show.
The 98th Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, March 15 at 7/6c on ABC and Hulu.
