Bill Maher Reveals Assassination Fears Led to This Big Decision

Bill Maher won’t be hitting the road any time soon.

According to an exclusive report from Radar Online, the comedian is living in fear of the current political climate. Bill reportedly decided to stop touring stand-up from 2024, out of concern that he could be assassinated for his political beliefs. This targeting, he believes, could be from left or right-wing assailants.

Radar Online stated that the podcaster fears being killed while touring, as there is “so much political anger out there.”

The report echoes similar comments made by Bill on his podcast, Club Time with Bill Maher. The Real Time host voiced concerns about his future making public appearances, following the death of Charlie Kirk. Charlie, a right-wing activist and fellow podcaster, was shot dead in September 2025, while touring university campuses hosting debates.

“First of all, I wouldn’t want to be on the road right now. I feel like I got off the road at a very good time. There’s just so much political anger out there. I could get shot from either side,” he said. Although Bill currently identifies as a Democrat, he believes either a Republican or a Democrat could aspire to kill him.

“They could get together and have a joint f*cking assassination. You know, they all have a reason to get me,” he added. “I mean, I just wouldn’t want to be out there in the atmosphere we live in today. I mean, it’s just, it’s chippy out there.”

He did, however, concede that he fears a Republican attack more. “I find [Democrats] less alarming than the Republicans and the conservatives who don’t believe in conceding elections.”
