Savannah Guthrie’s ‘Deliberate and Strategic’ Reward Examined by Private Intelligence Expert

Waiting may be the hardest part but, in many instances, the smartest. That’s according to a private investigator and top extortion expert who believes Savannah Guthrie was wise to wait before offering an increased reward for anyone who shares details about her mother’s disappearance. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st in Tucson, and investigators are sifting through countless tips to try to find her. It’s believed that she was kidnapped.

Toby Braun with American Special Investigative Group called Savannah’s move to delay the $1 million reward offer “deliberate and strategic.” It was something she wanted to do early into her mother’s disappearance but was advised not to.

Offering too much too quickly in a kidnapping case can be troublesome. Toby tells RadarOnline that “you do not offer a million dollars upfront only to invite a higher counter demand.” He says that waiting for the kidnappers to reach out, make a potential offer, and assess the situation from there is the right way to do this. In Nancy’s disappearance he believes that “strategy and timing often matter.” For him, that’s more vital than immediate action.

Days after Nancy went missing, Savannah and her siblings released a video. She said that she wants proof of life before negotiating with the person who might have taken her mom. Multiple ransom notes have been sent out to news outlets regarding the disappearance.

As if the FBI didn’t have enough information to go through Savannah just added to their workload. Her reward offer has led to more than 750 new tips coming into the investigative unit.

While Nancy’s been missing for nearly a month, Toby believes the kidnapper will be caught sooner rather than later. He calls him “sloppy,” while believing they’ve only gotten lucky this far. He says that everything captured on tape indicates to him that the person who did this is not a professional.
