Why Princess Eugenie Is Being Mocked for ‘Finally Doing the Right Thing’

Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have been increasingly under the spotlight since their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested last month on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. So far, the sisters have stayed quiet on the matter, which has drawn criticism from some. Now, a new move by Eugenie has added to that.

It was recently announced that Eugenie has stepped down as patron of Anti-Slavery International.

“After seven years, our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end,” the organization said in a statement. “We thank the Princess very much for her support for Anti-Slavery International. We hope that she continues to work to end slavery for good and deliver freedom for everyone.”

But the decision for Eugenie to part ways with Anti-Slavery International has not gone down well. A Radar Online source said critics have “mercilessly mocked” Eugenie for “finally” doing the right thing. The insider also noted the timing of Andrew’s “sex trafficking controversy.”

To recap, the former prince has been embroiled in the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. He features heavily in the files, which include emails and photos, and prompted his arrest last month. Andrew has since been released on bail pending further investigation and maintains no wrongdoing.

The source went on to say that while there are no allegations against Eugenie, the “association” with an anti-slavery organization has become “uncomfortable and heavily ironic.”

“Stepping away from the patronage may simply have been the most practical way to avoid drawing additional attention to the charity during an already volatile moment,” the insider added.

Anti-Slavery International works to prevent slavery in its many forms, including child slavery, forced labor, and human trafficking.
