In recent years, Netflix has stepped up its reality TV game. However, not every program has landed with the masses. In fact, according to subscribers, one of Netflix’s newest series, Blue Therapy, is actually coming across as “extremely staged.”
Blue Therapy delves into relationship issues
Blue Therapy is a British docuseries featuring seven real-life couples all in crisis mode. To help them decide if their union was worth saving, the couples were sent through several intense therapy sessions with a counselor named Karen Doherty. During their sessions, they mentioned it all, including accusations of cheating, hidden debts, and broken trusts within their relationships.
Many viewers are not buying it. As several of these doubters know, Blue Therapy actually debuted on YouTube in 2021. Here, it lived on a channel named Trend Centrl, which creates various short-form videos filled with content that people “need to know.” Thanks to social media users who shared, commented, liked, and subscribed to its many episodes, it went viral.
But now that Blue Threapy has officially received a glow-up on Netflix, the charm of this former YouTube series is seemingly fleeting. On Reddit, one unhappy watcher even created a thread about their feelings. It’s titled, “Just started Blue Therapy on Netflix and I’m already fuming, is that the point?” Very quickly, many others chimed in with similar opinions.
“I’m halfway through E1, and boy am I ANNOYED with that therapist. All I can do is sit and yell at the TV. She lets them talk over each other; she doesn’t try to mediate,” one viewer stressed. Many others agreed using their likes, with one writing, “I felt the same.”
Furthermore, after watching all eight episodes, “it felt extremely staged.” But as someone else chimed in, “The staged element was giving me that vibe even in Episode 1.”
Blue Therapy is streaming on Netflix.
