Sarah Michelle Gellar Makes Plea Amid Supposed Buffy Pilot Script Leak

Sarah Michelle Gellar would rather the new Buffy show be left on the cutting room floor. Earlier this month, Hulu decided not to move forward with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale. That has fans of the popular Buffy franchise scrambling to find anything they can about the pilot episode.

The show didn’t make it past the first episode before pulling the plug on the project altogether. However, there is speculation of a script leak which has many curious. Sarah, though, thinks it’s a bad idea even for that script or episode to go public.

The Buffy actress hopes fans don’t watch if the pilot leaks

Speaking on Page Six’s P6 Radio, Sarah worried that “everyone’s going to have an opinion on this and that, and pilots are not finished,” if the first episode is leaked.

The speculation is that Buffy, famously played by Sarah in the original series, barely features in the pilot episode. The show introduced a whole set of new characters for the new series, including a teenage slayer played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. One version of the script being discussed online is not actually the right one, according to Sarah.

Ahead of what she’d hoped would be the launch of the new series, Sarah insisted it is “not a reboot.” This past weekend, she delivered the sad news to fans on her Instagram account that the new Buffy show was being scrapped.

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons with several spinoffs created afterwards. In 1999, Sarah was named the Choice Television actress for her portrayal of Buffy at the Teen Choice Awards. She’s starring in the comedy horror Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which comes out in theatres across the US on Friday.
